Alfoxton Dog Centre

History of Alfoxton Dog Centre

Alfoxton Dog Centre was established 1993
Domestic Animal Business Registration No. DAB001 – Shire of Mitchell.

We understand dogs and have created an environment that allows dogs to be dogs.

Alfoxton has been our home for over 25 years and is situation on 16 acres of rolling hills and bushland. We are located approx 30 minute drive north of Epping and conveniently located near the Hume Highway.

Training: Anne started obedience training when she was just a kid -way back in 1974, by 1980 she was actively involved with the German Shepherd Club initially just showing and training but then joining the Shepherd News Editoral Committee as well as working with the Demonstration Team. Breeding a few litters of German Shepherd dogs had also increased her insight into the importance of good temperament into the raising and training of dogs. By 1993, we had added human babies to our family and the start of a new era. Now that Anne was home more this provided the opportunity to expand her skills with animals and began offering Training Classes at Wandong to help local family’s train their own dogs. Over the years we have had many dogs thru our program and we love the fact that we are always learning and developing techniques to help make better family pets.

Boarding: In 1998 we saw the need to expand and offer boarding facilities for dogs and cats. However rows of concrete and mesh did not fit in with our Training philosophy, so an alternative layout had to be designed. We achieved the required approval through Council for a spacious and social Pet’s Bed & Breakfast. Hence our mudbrick kennels and cattery was established.

Australian Shepherds: By 2005, we had the kennels and training school in full swing and Anne renewed her interest in breeding dogs. Having worked with many different breeds over the years, we were amazed at how great the Aussies fitted in with a family lifestyle. In 2007 our first litter of Aussies arrived and they are now firmly entrenched into our lives.

We are always looking to develop and improve at Alfoxton – New things are always happening – so keep in touch.
